Liberal Jews are still turning a blind eye to anti-Semitism on the left

Jew-hating has become too normal in America, and liberal Jewry often keeps mum about it. Left-of-center Jews speak out about white nationalists, but where are they on anti-Semitism when it arises from their own side?

Last week, Airbnb announced its decision to remove rental listings in the West Bank. But the apartment-sharing service didn’t touch listings in other disputed territories, like Russian-annexed Ukraine and Turkish-occupied North Cyprus. You would think liberal Jewish outfits would race to call out what lies behind this hypocrisy: anti-Semitism.

You’d think wrong. Anti-Defamation League boss Jonathan Greenblatt, for example, issued a tepid statement saying he was “dismayed” by the move. But he stopped short of calling out the blatant antiSemitism.

And what did the ADL have to say about Marc Lamont Hill's UN speech in which he excused Palestinian violence and called for an end to Israel? Funny you should mention it.

“Those calling for ‘from the river to the sea’ are calling for an end to the State of Israel.” It's a shame that once again, this annual Palestinian event at the UN does not promote pathways to a future of peace & instead promotes divisiveness and hate.

Yes, still tepid. Who can take that response to Hill's anti-Semitism seriously? Oh wait, did we say "anti-Semitism?"

Yes, we did. Why didn't the ADL? Watch the video and then decide for yourself if the ADL's response should have been more forceful, if they should have spoken up like they really meant it. T

here are other liberal Jews and liberal Jewish organizations who are either speaking up weakly or excusing this kind of hatred altogether. They should be called out, as Markowicz points out in her article. If you're only calling out one side, you're not really fighting anti-Semitism.
