BDS and Canary Mission

Back in November of 2017 a pro-BDS vote was passed by the University of Michigan student government. The vote itself means nothing. The important thing is the vilification of Israel and by extension, Jews.

According to a Detroit Jewish News article some Jewish students placed part of the blame for the passage on an anonymous group who refer to themselves as Canary Mission. One student said:

"The organization collects names of students it deems to be anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic.

"Their goals are to intimidate students on college campus, blow their statements and actions out of proportion, and prevent BDS votes from passing. That seems pretty ironic considering that their blacklist was one of the key factors in last night's passing,"

Actually, what's ironic is that BDS proponents who harass, intimidate, and target Jewish students for their Zionist beliefs, and who deny anti-BDS professors their right to speak in favor of Israel, whine about being intimidated and "blacklisted." It's troubling that Jewish students buy into that lie. Were there any credible reports of BDS proponents being targeted? Or were they taking advantage of Jewish students' sense of fair play?

To the average U of M student, this may be a debate, but to SJP and other campus Jew-haters, it is a war against the Jews and in war, there is no fair play. U of M's Jewish students are allowing SJP, SAFE, and the others to set the rules and to control the language. This is a sure path to defeat. Canary Mission is working to reverse that. The first thing to do is to expose the truth.

Another DJN article referred to, ". . . the far-right group behind the McCarthyite blacklist at Canary Mission." As always the pejorative "far right" is supposed to end the debate, and cause readers to avoid that scary "far right" Canary Mission website. How is exposing Jew-hatred a negative? Shouldn't we know?

According to Canary Mission's own mission statement:

Canary Mission documents people and groups that promote hatred of the USA, Israel and Jews on North American college campuses. Canary Mission investigates hatred across the entire political spectrum, including the far right, far left and anti-Israel activists.

Every individual and organization has been carefully researched and sourced.

Canary Mission doesn't "blow anyone's statements or actions out of proportion." They merely publish the statements and actions for everyone to see. If they were doing the same thing to Neo-Nazis and white supremacists, there would be cheers from Jewish U of M students and the Detroit Jewish News. What must be considered here is that Naziism is a spent force, and white supremacists are few and marginalized. Anti-Semitism from SJP, SAFE, and other left-wing groups is organized, well-funded, and growing.

Read some of what Canary Mission has gathered from UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian, a leader in the BDS movement:

In 2011, Bazian headlined a national speaking tour called “Never Again for Anyone" — launched on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The tour was organized by the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN), the Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) and AMP.According to an official statement by IJAN, the goal of the tour was to reveal how Zionists “exploited Nazism" and the genocide of European Jewry to build a Jewish state. Another goal of the tour was to analogize Zionists with Nazis by comparing Gaza to the Warsaw Ghetto.During a 2016 talk to promote his book — “Palestine… It Is Something Colonial" — Bazian argued that European Zionists “partnered with anti-Semites rather than actually challenging the basic assumption of anti-Semitism" by fleeing Europe and founding a Jewish state.

On July 31, 2017, Bazian retweeted an anti-Semitic tweet accusing a “Zionist" of “apartheid, occupation, ethnic cleansing, genocide" and theft of “Palestinian land+resources+body-organs"

The tweet also included an image of a purportedly Jewish man with the words “MOM LOOK! I IS CHOSEN! I CAN NOW KILL, RAPE, SMUGGLE ORGANS & AND STEAL THE LAND OF PALESTINIANS *YAY* ASHKE-NAZI"

The tweet included another image of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un wearing a kippah along with the words “101 JUDAISM WE TEACH IT", “GOD CHOSE ME" and “I JUST CONVERTED ALL OF NORTH KOREA TO JUDAISM....DONALD TLUMP: NOW MY NUKES ARE LEGAL & I CAN ANNEX SOUTH KOREA & YOU NEED TO START PAYING ME $34 BILLION A YEAR IN WELFARE."

Who is intimidating whom?

Below is a Canary Mission video exposing some SJP members' views on the Holocaust. There are disturbing Holocaust images. There are also disturbing statements. If you think they're blown out of proportion or McCartyite, imagine they were tweeted or posted (like I said above) by Nazis or white supremacists.

In the end, the problem is not Canary Mission exposing Jew-haters by publishing their Jew-hating actions, Facebook posts, and Tweets. The problem is that we've allowed the Jew-haters to control the debate. We need to take the initiative, understand that they have no desire for fair play or reasoned debate, and expose them for the debased Jew-haters they are.
