Jews Who Support Linda Sarsour
Normally that would be no big deal. She’s got lots of defenders. The troubling aspect here is that all the signatories are Jews, or according to the statement, “Jewish leaders”. They claim, “These attacks (against Sarsour) are dangerous, disingenuous and counterproductive, undermining core Jewish values of compassion, humility and human dignity."
How much anti-Semitism can some Jews overlook in order to achieve justice and dignity? And how much anti-Semitism can some Jews overlook before it's obvious to everyone that their claims to justice and dignity ring hollow? In defending Linda Sarsour the signatories state, "We may not agree with Sarsour on all matters. We do not offer our stamp of approval to every tweet or message she has ever posted." But by refusing to speak up, aren't they giving tacit approval to her anti-Jewish tweets and messages?
Read the statement. Look at the signers. Groups like J-Street, IfNotNow, and the New Israel Fund that are working against Israel and Jews are represented. HIAS, which used to work for the Jewish community is there. There are signers from Jewish interfaith groups and Jewish “social justice” groups, firmly placing their politics above their Judaism. Molly Schultz from the New School is there. The New School has scheduled a panel on anti-Semitism featuring a panel of Jew-haters led by Linda Sarsour and Rebecca Vilkomerson, head of Jewish Voice for Peace.
What are these Jews deciding to ignore – or not “offer their stamp of approval” - by siding with Sarsour? Here are some of her Twitter statements:
“(Anti-Semitism is) different than anti-black racism or Islamophobia because it’s not systemic . . . Of course, you may experience vandalism or an attack on a synagogue, or maybe on an individual level, but it’s not systemic, and we need to make that distinction.”
So we shouldn’t worry about the fact that over 50% of religion-based hate crimes are against Jews, who make up about 2% of the U.S. population.
About Rasmea Odeh, recently deported terrorist who murdered two Israeli Jews, Sarsour was “honored and privileged to be here in this space, and honored to be on this stage with Rasmea.”
She is allied with the Nation of Islam, whose leader, Louis Farrakhan would agree with her tweet: “Nothing is creepier than Zionism”
She prefers Sharia to Zionism.
“You’ll know when you’re living under Sharia Law if suddenly all your loans & credit cards become interest free. Sound nice, doesn’t it?”
Of course, under Sharia, Jews are subject to discriminatory laws and a special tax in order to insure their “protection.” But women have it really good under Sharia, except for the part where they’re second-class citizens, except when they’re property. Sarsour has stated that Zionists can’t be feminists, but with her support of Sharia, is she really a feminist?
