Dingell withdraws support for bill promoting 'human rights for Palestinian children',
The article, by Free Press writer, Omar Abdel-Baqui, give no information about whether or not the claims made by bill supporters are true. Of course they're not, and the entire bill is a steaming pile of Israel-bashing, but that's not part of the official narrative.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell withdrew her sponsorship from a bill that advocates for human rights for Palestinian children Tuesday.
The bill, HR2407, promotes "human rights for Palestinian children living under Israeli military occupation and require(s) that United States funds do not support military detention, interrogation, abuse, or ill-treatment of Palestinian children."
Dingell is a Democrat who represents Michigan's 12th Congressional District, which includes Dearborn, parts of Ann Arbor and some Downriver communities. The district includes a significant Palestinian and Arab American population.
“We must be committed to promoting a peaceful, two-state solution that empowers the Palestinian people to live in dignity and security with Israel," Dingell said. "After talking with many in my community about this bill. ... I felt HR 2407 was ultimately counterproductive to a peaceful, two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
The writer does take the time to interview local supporters of the bill,
Maya Berry — executive director of the Arab American Institute, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit — said suggesting HR 2407 is somehow detrimental to achieving a two-state solution "is simply illogical."
but since interviewing bill opponents may cause some truth to leak out, no opponents were contacted.
Other bill supporters include Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and AOC. Should it come to a vote, I wonder which way Andy Levin is going to go. Fortunately, he isn't a sponsor.
