Muslim leaders in France denounce petition against Muslim Jew-hatred

Yesterday we linked to an article about 30 French imams who denounced Muslim anti-Semitism and terrorism. Yes, we know, 30 really isn't very many, but we thought it was a good start.

According to this article from Elder of Ziyon, not all French Muslim leaders are happy with the denunciation and with a petition signed by French leaders and intellectuals condemning anti-Semitism and the slow motion ethnic cleansing of Jews from neighborhoods that have become increasingly Muslim.

According to one Abdallah Zekri, president of the National Observatory against Islamophobia:

"Jews are our cousins, we are also Semites," says Abdallah Zekri, Secretary General French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM). "I strongly condemn this platform," says the one who is also president of the National Observatory against Islamophobia: "Making the connection between Muslims and anti-Semitism is unacceptable." "The Muslim signatories who signed are self-proclaimed imams! They are not recognized by the Muslim community, they do not have a mosque, they do not preach. [...] They are what I call, and I will be strong in my terms, 'service Arabs' to please their masters.

And we hear that some of their best friends are Jews.

The question here is whether or not the French people will stand up for French Jews. Given the history of European anti-Semitism, the Dreyfus Affair, French behavior toward Jews during the Shoah, a French diplomat referring to Israel as "that shitty little country," we're sadly betting that the petition and the 30 imams will quickly be forgotten.
